About Maddie

Originally from the UK, I have been living in Canberra for 5 years and absolutely loveit! I think Canberra is one of the best cities, such a beautiful landscape, the food & drink always blows me away and the people are just wonderful.  
I have over 14 years of experience in accounting and finance, working at a top tier
accounting firm in London and as a management accountant for a global sock brand in the UK. Since moving to Australia in 2016 I have been lucky enough to work with an accounts practice based in Canberra, and most recently for a not-for-profit based in Queensland. I have been exposed to a wide range of people and sectors which have all helped me to develop a solid and extensive knowledge of business and accounting. 


I have travelled extensively, however still have a bunch of places on my bucket list (once the international borders reopen), as well as take my partner to the UK…for a wet and grey Christmas! One of my personal and now business goals is to get involved in 'Accounting for International Development’ (AFID.)

 

I have always had a passion for giving back to the community as well as local and global sustainability and impact led change. I had the opportunity to spend an extended period of time in Nigeria advocating for local communities and organisations to promote development, this was a life changing experience that has really shaped my own ethics and values.

Over the past few years, the idea that businesses can be run as a force for good and profits can be used for purpose creating better, sustainable business has become a HUGE passion. Having worked hard to build knowledge in this area, Melhuish & Melhuish was initially set up with the goal to work with businesses to implement practices and policies which promote these values, while also achieving their financial goals. Areas of review such as mission and vision, governance, employees, supply chain, waste, community, and environmental impact.


The other side of the business works with individuals to provide education around financial wellbeing, it became clear after chatting ‘money’ with friends that there is not enough education provided to young people. Melhuish & Melhuish works with individuals to build knowledge, maximise their options and establish clear goals while
creating great habits into the future.

Health Check Service

This is offered as a stand alone service in which we perform
a high level review of a client's accounting file or book records (excel/cash books).
We check for completeness and accuracy, identifying and summarising any issues that come to light. We can then either provide these as recommendations for the client to address, create a focused training plan to work through or supply a quote for Melhuish & Melhuish to carry out the work.
The health check also means we can quote accurately should the client wish to engage us for ongoing bookkeeping services. Furthermore we can suggest other
areas that may add value such as cash flows/budgets/KPI monitoring/App integrations.
